Cristiano Ronaldo juggle

We all knew Barcelona was going to win against Almeria, it was only a matter of by how much.

While Saturdays late match, between Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, was to be more the challenge.

Indeed after the Llorente goal, right before the interval, Athletics Basque supporters surely still felt a glimmer of hope. But with the arrival of second half action, also arrived two undisputal penalties against the visitors (watch the goal highlights) and a ripping free-kick from Cristiano Ronaldo who was class with yet another hat trick performance on the day, putting this one out of reach.

Atletic keeper Iraizoz could not hope to stop the Ronaldo free-kick (best goal of the day I thought), as the ball was superbly struck from distance with speed and dip, catching Bilbaos number one off balance and out.

Jose Mourinho

Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Ramos were also on the scoresheet for Jose Mourinho’s club as the Special One looked on from the stands.

Real Madrid stay atop La Liga with 32 points while arch-rivals FC Barcelona even with their 8-0 thrashing of Almeria, still sit shy of pole position on 31 points.

Both teams will now meet at Barcelona’s Camp Nou November 29th, their first meeting of the season, to decide top dog in La Liga.
