Around La Liga 2010: 8.19

ValenciaValencia: Juan Mata Sr. says that his son would have gone to Barca, and had a deal in place, but that los che closed the door to his signing. They expected a contract or a transfer soon after and have gotten neither. I know they have financial problems, but the rebuilding process is contingent on signing Mata.

Villareal: After his contract ended last season, Javi Venta has been without a contract for two months. He thought he might have to travel far, but he essentially stays home as he has signed for one year with Levante down the road. A good deal for player and new team. Levante: Their seventh signing of the season, Nano, the defender from Real Betis has signed. I hope they can pay all these guys this time around. Hercules: Dani Guiza is in the sights of the Valencian club, wanted by the Spaniards and on the outs with his Turkish club; his private life has been questioned by Besiktas, but the two clubs have been far apart financially.
MurciaReal Murcia: Oscar Sanchez and Isaac Jove have both agreed to lower their contracts in order to extend them throughout the clubs stay in Segunda B.
AndalusiaReal Betis: With Sergio Garcia leaving for Espanyol, they have contacted Malaga for the rights to midfielder Nabil Baha. Sevilla: Defender Sebastian Squillaci is in Arsenals wheelhouse. They will probably have to pay more than expected. Del Nido is a marvelous negotiator. Malaga: ex-Arsenal winger Quincy Owusu-Abeyie debuted with Malaga after his transfer from Qatari club Al-Saad. After a fast start, playing with Dutch U-19s and switching to Ghanas international squad, and many personal problems, it looks like the kid might make it back in Spain. Almeria: Jose Ramon, their crack youth-team striker that is contracted until 2012, has been extended for another two years.

Extremadura: Extremadura lost 0-1 at home to Cordoba in Almendralejo, Extremadura thanks to Pepe Diaz. You thought I was going to talk about the heat in Extremadura again?

Castile-La Mancha: The World Cup trophy, making its rounds throughout Spain, will be in Ciudad Real, Castilla-La Mancha next Monday.

MadridAtletico de Madrid: the Argentine winger Eduardo Salvio has been loaned out to Benfica. Real Madrid: midfielder Mesut Ozil has signed for Real Madrid for around 17 million euros. His signing strengthens an already strong area. If they sell Rafael Van der Vaart, theyll be missing him like Sneijder this past season. Getafe: A storm is brewing between coach Michel and management for the sale of his son Adrian to Racing Santander against his wishes. Another in a long-line of feuds in the cards for the former Real Madrid and Spain striker.

GaliciaDeportivo La Coruna: the agent of Paraguayan defender Claudio Morel has admitted that his client is headed for Depor.

AsturiasSporting de Gijon: defensive midfielder Diego Camacho is in the sights of West Bromwhich Albion boss Gus Poyet

CantabriaRacing Santander: midfielder Claudio Yacob is in the sights for Zamparinis Palermo squad.

Pais VascoAthletic Bilbao: Former Bilbao coach Javier Clemente has taken over the national team of Cameroon. Good for Samuel Etoo. He can retire now because as a forward, he wont be needed much anymore. Real Sociedad: signing Dani Pacheco from Liverpool is still in La Reals dreams.

La RiojaUD Logroñés: in a preseason friendly UD Logrones have lost 0-3 to Athletic Bilbao.

NavarraCA Osasuna: Camachos club falls to second division side Real Valladolid and continues its preseason slide. Club functionaries are visibly worried about the upcoming year.

AragonReal Zaragoza: Real Zaragoza have agreed over the debt owed to AC Milan of around 10 million euros.

Catalunya: Barcelona: Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be leaving the club despite reports in England that City are interested in a massive bid for the ex-Inter Milan striker.  Espanyol: ex-Barcelona striker and attacking midfielder Sergio Garcia is still close to signing from Real Betis. The Beticos are playing hard-ball with the pericos, but they have little leverage. Theyre in the second division. You see why I despise the beticos so much?

Las Islas:  Mallorca: ex-Mallorca defender Felipe Mattioni will be out 6 months after being signed by Espanyol.
